The Rotary 5K Corporate Challenge is a run/walk held each year in mid-April at SUNY Adirondack. This year, race day is April 25, 2020. The course winds around the exterior of the campus, providing scenic views of the campus, as well as, surrounding mountains and countryside. Race registration is available at www.active.com. Click here to register https://www.active.com/queensbury-ny/running/distance-running/rotary-5k-corporate-challenge-2020?int=72-3-A4 or by hard copy printable applications available on the club website home page at www.glensfallsrotary.org.

Funds raised by this event go to charities each year designated by the Rotary Club Board of Directors. These funds assist the designated charities in carrying out their mission in our area.

This year Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of two charities that will benefit from the proceeds of the event. The staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters works closely wih volunteers, "Bigs", to spend time with local youth, "Littles", who need an additional role model in their lives. Bigs commit to spend a year with their Littles and agree to see the child at least twice a momth. They are there to provide an additional adult presence in their lives and can do things as easily as taking their Little to a sporting event, going out for pizza, or see a movie. There are also large events for Bigs and Littles to come together and share new experiences and have good times. Littles have an additional someone in their lives that they may confide in and can experience a variety of opportunities.

Our second charity is World Awareness Children's Museum whose mission is to bring diversity to children by providing unique educational opportunities for children and families through programs to foster understanding of cultural differences and similarities. This helps children be productive and empathetic citizens. Currently there are 1500 families living below the poverty line in the tri-counties. World Awareness Children's Museum is collaborating with Head Start to create a new program called Head Start/Small World Program which will include:
  • WACM will provide 30 Summer Opportunity Passes for families in ten different Head Start classes.
  • WACM will provide free educational programming for 10 Head Start classes including 10 classroom visits by WACM educators and 10 on-site field trips to the Museum.
This 3.1-mile health and wellness event kicks off race day, April 25, 2020 at the SUNY Adirondack Student Center on Bay Road, Queensbury, NY. Pre-registration is open now and ends on April 24, 2020. The cost per adult is $26 dollars, kids 12 and under is $17 during pre-registration. Thereafter, cost per adult is $31, and kids 12 and under is $22. We open at 8 am on race day with registration and race packet pick up. The race starts at 10am at the North end of the campus on Haviland Road. After the race, food, beverages, and raffles can be found back in the Student Center. The Rotary 5K Corporate Challenge finishes with awards in individual categories, team awards, and an award for the organization with the most participants crossing the finishing line.

The Rotary 5K Corporate Challenge course provides the opportunity for experienced runners to compete and test their running on this flat and fast course with one small hill at the start. The course also provides a good experience for new runners and walkers. Area companies and organizations often encourage employees and members to participate as a health and wellness activity that they can train for and build friendships in the process.
