Hurricane Dorian Relief Effort - We have decided to partner with a Rotary Club from Miami Florida that President Elect John Fitzgerald was a former member of, to send donations to the Bahamas Dorian Relief effort. This will be like our Polio drive we did last year. $25 or more will be greatly appreciated. To donate, please make a check out to the Glens Falls Rotary Foundation with a note or memo earmarking it for the Bahamas Dorian Relief. Our neighbors from the Northern Lake George Club collected $686 for this effort, so we need to raise at least this much as we can't be outdone by our small neighboring club. Any amount is acceptable. When we have completed this effort, John Fitzgerald will present it the Miami Club. Thank you for your support and all that you do for the community, both near and far.
Membership Dues - We currently have 95 members including 5 honorary (who are not required to pay dues). Our 2019-2020 budget year began July 1, 2019. As of today, we have 59 out of 90 members who have paid their dues. We appreciate their promptness! If you are one the 31 members who had not yet paid your dues or if you are not sure if your dues have been paid, please contact Brian Corcoran, Kim Bren, or Tim Bechard as soon as possible. A portion of your membership dues goes to Rotary International and a portion to the District. These have been or will be paid shortly on your behalf, so it is important that you are up to date with your membership dues. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
Program of September 5th - Heather O'Connor, Director of the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease at the Glens Falls Hospital gave us an update of the this new program. In 2016, Glens Falls Hospital received a designation as a Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease by the New York State Department of Health. The hospital was awarded $2.1 million in state funding to serve the Northeastern region of New York. The mission of the Center is to promote earlier diagnosis, support patients and caregivers and connect them to community resourses. Heather reviewed the many forms of Alzheimer's disease and how diagnosis has improved with various ways of testing the patient, including feedback from family who are with the patient on a day to day basis.
