The Pollocks Report on Nepal and the Looma Project
At today's lunch we welcomed our fellow Rotarian Lee Pollock, and his wife Linda, to speak about their work in Nepal. Lee and Linda work hard to support education efforts in Nepal from building schools, handing out school supplies, and working with Looma (Read more about Looma) to bring curriculum to students. Looma develops affordable technology to bring a modern education to all in Nepal, even those without power or Internet. Looma also provides installation, maintenance, and teacher training through their local team.
We learned about the Pollocks efforts over the years to establish much needed school buildings in a local village, including a community space.

In partnership with our Rotary Club, local Rotary Clubs in Nepal, Looma and more, these Looma boxes have been installed in classrooms around the region. Looma also provides training to the local teachers on how to use the device. It is a project and mini-computer combined with over 10,000 lessons across grades 1-12, including in Nepali and English languages, with both Nepali and other curriculum available. It is an energy efficient device that runs on a battery charged with solar.
